Days like this are the reason why I absolutely adore what I do. We met Tilly & James and their family at Tilly’s Father’s Farm in Umberleigh which is where the wedding day will be spent. What a treasure trove. The place is gloriously speckled with hidden gems and beautiful brickwork and I was in my element. Wedding preparations were in full swing and all the family were busying themselves erecting a marquee and clearing out the barn. We spent time by the large pond with the dogs enjoying the water before venturing up to visit the horses, one of which will be pulling the cart on the wedding day! After being stung on the head by a bee (to be fair, I decided to rudely invade the bee’s space) we stumbled upon Tilly & James stash of items they are saving for the big day. From flowers to decorations, to dad’s work-in-progress cake stand, to tea party crockery, it was such a privilege to be invited in to peoples preparations for one of the most monumental days of their lives. Tilly’s dad’s work shop literally made me want to wee myself, I was honestly in heaven. It was like the best kind of reclamation yard you can imagine, emanating personal craftsmanship and nostalgia. It was a dream. The day was topped off by getting to meet a very cute elderly dog and Joey the duckling. So much love and excitement here and I am stoked to be the one shooting this story. If you would like me as your wedding photographer and to be part of your day then say Hi Carla x
So wedding season is in full swing and the pre-wedding shoots are rolling in. They are such special moments. This is often the first time I actually get to meet my couples and it is just lush. It is a real chance to spend time together, get to know how we all work and what makes us tick. We get our flow going and the magic happens! Come the wedding, being photographed, strangely feels so much more normal and I am so lucky I get to share these intimate moments with you all. So, on 29th April, Paul (my partner and second shooter) and I travelled to the BEAUT of a venue in Chagford, Dartmoor called Monks Withecombe to meet the gorgeous Rob & Lisa for their pre-wed shoot at their chosen wedding venue. Nicky the owner welcomed us with open arms, a warm log fire and mugs of tea and biscuits. I honestly did not want to leave. The venue is just stunning. It speaks for itself and has a beamed art gallery, gorgeous gardens stretching far and wide and stunning out-buildings and quirky features. Literally, a wedding photographers dream come true! Rob and Lisa took us on a tour around the winding gardens and we did some shooting. It was just a delight to get to see the venue where the big day is going to happen in August. So exciting. A delicious Sunday shoot was had and we had the added extra of getting to meet the gorgeous old boy Beau the golden retriever. Before we left, Rob let me know that Lisa had just said to him that she just knows they have chosen the right photographers! Rob and Lisa received their images via their own online gallery which they can download, favourite and share as they wish. I received this glorious message afterwards which made my heart glow ♥ ‘Thank you for our pre-wedding photos – they look amazing! We had a fab time and you helped us feel very relaxed in front of the camera, which I certainly didn’t think was possible. I loved how you captured the beauty of the venue as well, I’m so excited to have you both as our wedding photographers x’ I can’t ask for much more. THIS IS WHY I AM SO IN LOVE WITH MY JOB! As always, I would love to hear from you so say Hey here..
Ok, GAMECHANGER. So on the 5th April this year I packed my rather oversized suitcase (obv.) and headed to Exeter Services. Croissant consumed and coffee in hand, I was ready. I was travelling to Snowdonia to meet some lovely and like minded people at the Two Honest Creative Day in Snowdonia. I stayed in the beautiful dinky pod all by myself! – Other than waking up in the early hours to the door swinging open in the wind, I successfully completed this task! It was such an amazing experience…I seriously was head over heels in the feeling of being surrounded by people from different parts of the UK who love this as much as I do! Weddings is OUR thang and I became so absorbed and inspired. I got to work alongside one of my all time photography crushes Carla Blain Photography and Love Luella.  It was utterly magical to be able to share our experiences and bounce ideas around. We sat in a Yurt in the middle of nowhere and shared our business ideas, techniques, experiences and most of all our love for love birds. When you meet people who get as passionate as you about this kinda stuff, it is euphoric and is hard not to get super excited about the right now AND the future. CREATIVITY – I got to get my creative swag on (my all time favourite thing to do) and FREE-LENSED the hell out of Snowdonia. See later Blog – FREE-LENSING I can honestly say it has effected me and my business in such a positive way. BROADENING HORIZONS FOR THE WIN. ♥
